Reading Marathon
My husband and I had a quiet reading night last night. He is reading “Eldest” and I am reading “Brisingr”. In the same 2 hour time period he read 60 pages and I read 110. Hahahaha. He was really mad. He is always bitter that I am a fast reader. Lots happened in those 110 pages so here are my thoughts.
The dwarfs are trying to pick their new chief and it made me really reflect on our own political processes. There are 12 clan chiefs and those 12 have to all agree on one overall chief out of the 12 of them. It’s all a big game about getting the right chiefs to support them. They won’t even hold a vote until someone has the support of 9 clans. The whole process can go in for a VERY long time. Some of the clan chiefs are willing to put aside their personal interests and support another chief in hopes that he has the right ideas about the direction of the dwarfs. However, others just want the power more than anything and will not support another chief even if they have no chance to win. The whole process is rather convulated and I’m not entirely sure that our process is any better.
I’m also getting way excited to see what kind of new magic or skills Eragon is going to have to learn to be able to hold his own as Murtagh continues to get stronger.
